Costs

What WordPress costs and what custom costs

In practice the amounts for a WordPress site and a custom site are close to each other. The difference is in what you get in return: with custom you pay for exactly what you need, with WordPress often for a package of which you use most of it not at all.

What you pay for with WordPress

Besides the build itself you usually pay for hosting, a theme, plugins that are often renewed yearly, and time for updates and repairs when something stops working. If you want something no plugin can do, development comes on top.

What you pay for with custom

You pay for building exactly what you need, plus hosting and maintenance. There is no stack of plugins to keep up to date, because what a plugin used to do is a permanent part of your site.

What you get in return

Your own database, integrations with the tools you already use, a site built for speed and findability and fewer components from others to maintain. That is the difference, not a lower amount.

When WordPress is cheaper

For a simple site with a few pages and a blog you can often start cheaper with WordPress. If you have no special wishes and need little time for maintenance, that is a good choice.

An example: Heart in Communication

Heart in Communication had a WordPress site, an Excel overview for courses and a separate mailing tool. That is three things to pay for and to maintain. Now it is one workspace where scheduling, courses, payments and mailings come together.

Frequently asked questions about costs

Is custom more expensive than WordPress?

Not noticeably. The amounts are close to each other. The difference is in what you get in return.

What do I pay besides the build?

Hosting and maintenance. With custom you have no plugin licences that have to be renewed every year.

How do I know what my site costs?

With the WordPress check and migration plan for 195 euro you get a plan with a fixed price. We deduct that amount from the move.

When does custom pay off?

When you need extra functions that belong to your business, when you want to connect separate tools or when speed and findability matter.

First a plan, then move
