Vibe coding is a way of building software where you tell an AI tool such as Lovable in plain language what you want, and do not read or check the code the AI writes. The term was coined in February 2025 by AI researcher Andrej Karpathy.
Context
With Lovable anyone can make a working website or app in a short time. You describe what you want, Lovable writes the code and you see the result straight away. For a prototype, an internal test or a first idea, that is ideal.
The risk lies in what you do not see. A site can look good and still be insecure, send emails to the spam folder or be hard to find in Google. In 2025, research into more than 1,600 Lovable projects showed that in 170 of them customer data could be retrieved without logging in, because the database security was not set up correctly.
The alternative is not less AI, but AI with checks. You let AI do the fast building work and an experienced developer checks the code, security, data and findability. That way you keep the speed of Lovable without the risks of vibe coding. AI does not replace expertise, it moves it from typing to steering and reviewing.
