Custom vs. standard platform

What is a custom platform?

A custom platform is a website or web app built entirely around the specific way a business works.

Definition

A custom platform is a website or web application built entirely to a business's specific way of working, rather than based on a standard template such as WordPress or Shopify.

Context

The difference isn't in the look — it's in what sits under the hood: functionality that matches exactly how a business operates, instead of functionality that has to be bent to fit the limits of an existing platform.

That makes it a fit as soon as off-the-shelf solutions hit their limits — for example a combination of webshop, CRM and internal workflows in a single system, or industry-specific processes that don't fit any standard template.
